Dubbed Anime on Hulu

If you ask a proper otaku like me, I’ll always say that watching Anime in Japanese is the best and no dub version can top over the originality. But it is also a fact that when I first started watching anime, I watched Dubbed version of Naruto and liked it a lot.

Hulu has a huge catalog of over 60 English Dubbed Anime and all of them are rated very high by the anime community. In this post, I’ve created a list of the 12 Best Dubbed Anime on Hulu. Not just that, I have made sure you know if an anime is worth watching in Dub or choose the Sub. Hope you’ll appreciate the effort.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Anime Synopsis:

To bring back their recently deceased mother, brothers Edward and Alphonse attempt a horrific experiment of human transmutation. As the experiment goes wrong Alphonse’s body gets disintegrated and Edward loses his leg.

After being saved by a neighbor Pinako Rockbell and her granddaughter Winry, the Elric brothers are all set to restore their bodies by finding the Philosopher’s Stone. As time goes by Edward becomes an infamous alchemist and gets the nickname “Fullmetal”.

English Dub Review:

The English Dub of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is nothing in comparison to the original Japanese version.

Rie Kugimiya, who is the voice artist for Alphonse has done a remarkable job that non-Japanese speakers were also able to connect with the series.

You could actually form a bond with each character and understand their emotions without even understanding the language.

2. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass

Anime Synopsis:

Lelouch and Nunnally were the children of an Emperor named Charles Zi Britannia and his wife Marianne vi Britannia. When Lelouch was ten and Nunnally was six their mother was murdered under mysterious circumstances.

Nunnally, who was the sole witness of her mother’s death, lost both her sight and walking ability. As their father took no step in finding out the culprit, Lelouch renounced his title and both the children left the palace and set out for a journey they never expected.

English Dub Review:

Unlike other English dub series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion English dubbed version is far better. But still, the impact that the non dubbed version creates is missing.

As this series showcases various emotions skipping away the dubbed version is recommended.

3. Death Note

Death Note

Anime Synopsis:

The story of this nerve-wracking series begins when Light Yagami, a teen genius discovers a mysterious notebook called the “Death Note”. Its original owner Shinigami Ryuk grants the power to the user to kill anyone whose name is written on the pages.

The light uses this notebook to kill individuals worldwide whose activities he deemed as immoral. But these unexplainable deaths created a media frenzy that forced Interpol to take the help of detective L. Will L be able to stop Light? Or will Light kill L?

English Dub Review:

To enjoy Death Note thoroughly, watching its English Dub is recommended. The dub version is funnier as well. Jokes are rewritten in a much funnier tone that you won’t be able to enjoy in the original version.

4. Bleach

Bleach

Anime Synopsis:

Ichigo Kurosaki, our protagonist, is a normal high schooler who loves playing and hanging out with his friends like any other child at his age. But one day when his whole family is attacked by an evil spirit named Hollow his whole life turns upside down.

English Dub Review:

Bleach is one of the most talked-about anime series amongst anime fans. Since its release in 2004, it has taken the anime world by storm.

For all of you who are still deciding whether to watch its dubbed version or subversion keep, we would recommend you go for the dub version. Voice-over artist Johnny Yong Bosch who voiced Ichigo did a marvelous job at it. Overall the dub version will not disappoint you.

5. Food Wars

Food Wars

Anime Synopsis:

The next anime that we will talk about is about a boy named Souma Yukihira who cooks alongside his father Jouichirou. He always dreamt of taking over the restaurant one day and exceeding his father’s skills.

But he is taken aback when he learns that his father is closing up the restaurant and taking a job in New York. Instead of going along with his father, he decides to stay back and enrols himself in Tootsuki Culinary Academy, one of the most popular cooking schools.

Only 10% of students make it to the final year of this school and graduate. Whether or not our protagonist Souma will be able to graduate, only time will tell.

English Dub Review:

The English dub of Food Wars is pretty solid. It keeps you in the loop throughout the season. But some major characters went totally flat and somehow the dubbed version was not able to bring the charm.

Stephanie Wittels who voices the character of Erina missed the whole essence of her character. Still, the dub is good and you should definitely watch it.

6. Your Lie in April

Your Lie in April
Your Lie in April

Anime Synopsis:

If you’re new to the world of majestically romantic animes, then this anime is for you. Arima misses his mother after he loses her and stops playing the instrument he is excellent at; a piano.

However, one fine day, he comes across a girl who brings him back to the music world and leads Arima, the child prodigy, on a path to great success.

English Dub Review:

The dubbing of the main cast of Your Lie in April is done quite nicely. It looks strong and it allows you to really connect with the character.

The character development that was shown during all the seasons was perfectly justified in the dubbed version. The only thing that lacked in that the voices of main characters is a bit mature for their ages.

7. Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Anime Synopsis:

When centuries ago, the human race was about to be extinct by monstrous humanoid creatures called the “Titans”, humans built concentric walls to protect themselves. These creatures were hunting down humans just for pleasure and hiding was the only option left.

The concentric walls were so strong that for nearly a century no Titan was able to penetrate it and kill another human. Unless one day when a Titan was able to shatter down the outer walls. The only way this time to survive is to fight. Our protagonist, Eren Yeager, is part of a military troop called Survey Corps who fights with the humanoids outside the wall.

He along with his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and childhood friend Armin Arlert are all set to beat the Titans and save the human race from extinction. They are looking for a solution to beat the humanoids before they breach the last wall.

English Dub Review:

Voice overs actors have done an amazing job in both sub or dub versions of the series. But one thing that will surely be noticed if you will watch both the sub and subversion is that the dub version portrayed emotions in a much healthier way than the subversion.

You might even shed a tear or two while watching the dub version. As only one or two characters actually possess Japanese heritage you won’t feel a need to watch the subversion at all.

8. One-Punch Man

One Punch Man

Anime Synopsis:

Saitama always wanted to become a hero and to fulfil his dream he went through hardcore training. After three years of giving it all and losing his hair, Saitama became so powerful that he can beat any person with just one punch.

As no one can match his strength and beat him, Saitama no longer enjoys fighting. But little did Saitama know that all this was about to change. After a brief encounter with a 19-year-old cyborg named Genos, who wants to become Saitama’s disciple, they both join the Hero Association to become certified heroes on Genos’ request.

As they join the association they make plenty of friends and enemies as well. Let’s see where the tie with this association will take them further.

English Dub Review:

The dub version of One Punch man perfectly fits in with every character. Still, there is some amount of detachment you will feel all through the series.

The English voice-over artist of Saitama, Max Mittelman gave his best but still, he was not able to create a magic that all the anime fans craved for. In all, the dubbed version looked a bit put off.

9. Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom

Anime Synopsis:

“Within a year the whole Earth will get destroyed”, this statement was claimed by a creature who has already destroyed 70% of the moon. But he allows the people on Earth a chance to fight. Unfortunately, this creature becomes a teacher at Kunugigaoka Junior High School for the students of class 3 E.

These students along with studying start preparing to assassinate this creature and save everybody from a depressing fate. They name this teacher Koro-sensei (the indestructible teacher) and make plans to kill it.

But this is not going to be an easy fight for the students as this creature can fly at a speed equal to Mach 20. Let’s see who will win in the end, the teacher or the students?

English Dub Review:

If you have a choice of choosing between the dub version and the subversion of Assassination Classroom, go for the dub version. The jokes are well written that will make you roll down from your bed laughing.

The voice-over actors used whacky sounds that grabbed the attention of the audience perfectly. Also, one thing that made the dub version stand out is its quality. The voices are crystal clear and each and every word is dubbed accurately.

10. Hunter x Hunter

Hunter x Hunter

Anime Synopsis:

Hunters are elite members who can find treasures, beats, and even humans. To become a hunter people have to go through a gruesome Hunter examination which has a qualifying percentage of one in several hundred thousand.

After 12-year-old Gon Freecss, whose both parents are dead, gets to know that his father is still alive and is an established Hunter, he decides to find his father and take the Hunter exam.

During the examination, he befriends a boy named Leorio Paladiknight whose goal is to avenge his family. Although their goals differ, their zeal to become a Hunter is what paves the foundation of their friendship.

English Dub Review:

To be honest, both the sub and English dub version of Hunter x Hunter are amazing. But two reasons will make you shift to the subbed version.

First, all the episodes of Hunter x Hunter in sub are available easily. Second, there are times when the dubbed lines are not making any sense at all. Therefore, sour your experience.

11.  Naruto

Naruto

Anime Synopsis:

Konoha, one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries in the Ninja World, is attacked by a powerful fox known as Nine-Tails. To save the village from turning into ruins, the Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze seals the fox inside his newborn baby Naruto Uzumaki which costs him his life as well. Naruto, a super active ninja is not aware of this fact as the Third Hokage who is now the leader of Konoha forbids everyone to mention this to naruto.

Still, the villagers show their disappointment by despising him. As he struggles to adjust to the village he ends up making many dear friends and foes as well. His journey of earning the respect of the villagers and his mentors is filled with action, drama, and emotions that make Naruto one of the most popular anime series on the list.

English Dub Review:

There is hardly any anime fan who has not watched at least one episode of Naruto on Toonami. If this statement is true for you then you will also agree with the fact that Naruto’s English dub version is the best amongst all other anime dubbed versions.

Voice-over artist Maile Flanagan brings life to Naruto’s character that it becomes difficult to watch it any other way. To sum up the review, Naruto should always be watched in dubbed versions.

12. My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia

Anime Synopsis:

Izuku Midoriya always wanted to become a hero but sadly he was born without any quirks(superpowers). He is the biggest fan of the Japanese superhero “All Might” and dreams of becoming like him.

But once when Izuku had an encounter with All Might he ridiculed him that he can never become a hero. Until one day when his friend Bokugo was caught by a villain Izuku without even giving a second thought ran to save Bokugo. Looking at the selfless act of Izuku, All Might decides to give his power to Izuku.

He also enrols Izuku in a SuperHero school so that he can brush up on his skills. The journey to becoming a hero takes Izuku on a ride where makes many friends and fights with dangerous villains.

English Dub Review:

If you are someone who has always had the worst experience with the dubs then your perception is about to change with My Hero Academia. This is one of the best-dubbed anime that you can ever lay your hands on.

The voice-over artists in the dubbed version have made the characters sound more like what they should have sounded in the first place. The crystal clear sound quality is a plus point that will make you fall in love with the dubbed version.
