Based on a historical novel by Jin Yong, “The Duke of Mount Deer” has been adapted as a tv drama many times. The most recent being the 2020 Chinese adaptation. However, I believe that age truly doesn’t matter and 1984’s TVB version of The Duke of Mound Deer is still the best adaptation of this novel ever made.

Wei Siu Bo is a spoiled brat having no direction in life. His favorite pass time is roaming around his mother’s brothel. One day he is brought to the palace by a blind eunuch where the emperor is impressed by his witty sense of humor. The young emperor offers him a position in Grand Eunuchs.

  • Year: 2016-2020

Having watched many popular courtroom drama movies, and legal tv shows, it was hard for me to ignore Legal mavericks. This was my first legal genre of HK drama and in no time I got hooked on the story.

Calling it just a courtroom drama would not be fair. It’s a mixed genre show with enough moments of comedy, suspense, and sometimes even romance.

Summary

Law is Blind. If you haven’t already understood this statement, you must see this drama. The story revolves around Vincent Wong, a blind barrister who has developed amazing senses that are beyond normal sight.

Vincent’s team includes paralegal Sisley Choi and private detective Owen Cheung. Knows as “Three Sword Fighters” they are on a mission to help the needy claim justice in the court even if it meant crossing the lines.

Another iconic TVB Jade Drama which can’t be left out is Virtues of Harmony. An exceptional representation of Chinese culture supported by a strong plot led this drama to become one of the most popular Hong Kong sitcoms. Originally aired in 2001, the drama was reaired by TVB in 2018 due to its high popularity.

Summary

The series follows the chronicles of the wealthy Kam family. Yau Nim Chi heads the Kam family. She is a single mother of 3 triplets who strictly follow every word she says.

The family owns a restaurant in the town square and is famous for its noodles. The show is an account of back-to-back tragedies that keeps happening with the family members.

  • Logline: Story of unbalanced life of solar aviation staff.
  • Year: 2003
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Francis Ng, Flora Chan, Joe ma, Myolie Wu

It surprises me to see how Hong Kong dramas were functioning way ahead of their time. While other Asian dramas are still figuring their way out of historical novels and high school stories, TVB had come up with this non-generic, realistic-looking story in 2003. No doubt it was the best TVB drama of the 2000s.

Summary

The story sets up in a fictional Aviation company called Solar Aviation. Samuel Tong and Vincent Ling are two childhood friends who work as a pilot in Solar Aviation.

At one point in their career, they get indulged in a love triangle with an air hostess named Belle. Soon after Vincent weds Belle, love dreams of Samuel come to an end. The show then goes into narrating incidents from the lives of Belle and Vincent.

  • Cast: Michael Tse, Bosco Wong, Fala Chen, Kate Tsui

In the genera of action thriller, the hong kong anime has made a significant contribution. Adding to the same, this anime is a spin-off of the highly distinguished crime drama series E.U. Not only it was one of the top-rated drama series of TVB in the year 2011 but also won the best drama at the TVB awards during the same year.

Summary

As I already mentioned the series is a spin-off of the crime drama E.U, the narrative begins with the biggest plot buster where the officer who supposedly died in the E.U is found to be alive and uses his death to solve an important mission in China. Later on, he again became a part of Hong Kong’s CIB where he started training recruits.

He was well known for his rebellious nature and many of the officers disliked him for not playing by rules.
