highlights from best god anime

You know an anime is gonna be filled with overpowered characters when you have literal Gods in it. Though not the case with every God anime, still, there are rarely any animes with God characters that I disliked.

Countless animes have featured divine beings in their story, but not all of them had Gods as their MC. So in this post, I decided to include popular anime where God is the main character or plays a very crucial role in the story.

Without further ado, here’s the list of 20 Best God Animes of All-time that will make you bow down to the divine being.

20. Oh! My Goddess

Oh My Goddess

It must be nice having a Goddess taking care of you and falls in love with you. I know it’s all fiction but after watching this God anime this thought will definitely come to your mind. Oh! My Goddess is a sweet rom-com anime that is also filled with a good amount of action to keep you hooked at all times.

There are three realms; heaven ( Valhalla ), hell ( Niflheim), and Earth. Gods rule ValhallaNiflheim is the world of beasts and demons, and humans have Earth. The Reality is managed by Yggdrasil; a complex computer.

Just like the earth, in the realm of Valhalla and Niflheim, all gods and demons have class, category, and limitations to use their power. And Yggdrasil keeps an eye on everyone and maintains the law.

Oh! My Goddess is the story of a human, Keiichi Morisato and the goddess, Belldandy who stay together through all thick and thin and stand against the laws of Yggdrasil.

Inari Kon Kon is not a very outstanding God anime, neither its story is unique. But it doesn’t need to be all that, it is a great anime the way it is.

Inari is a shy and clumsy school girl with a kind heart. One day she saves an animal from drowning in the river. The deity gets happy by her act of kindness in this selfish world.

The show brings together Gods from different mythologies and puts forward a highly captivating story with lots of action, magic, and tasteful fan service. The animation quality is also phenomenal. Overall this anime is a total package and a must-watch.

In the world of Danmachi, diety or gods have started living in the human world. They all have limited their magical powers as they wanted to know the hardships of the human world. The deities have formed familias in which they take mortals and the mortals serve them.

Kamisama Kazouku

I am sure you are intrigued by this God anime after reading the logline. I was too when I read about this anime on My Anime List and watched it soon after. A story of a god learning the human ways is definitely an interesting premise and it is executed beautifully. From story to character development, everything is worth appreciating.

Samatarou seems like an average high school boy living an ordinary life but this is not the case. Samatarou is a son of God and his mother is a goddess.

The whole family lives in the human world so that Samatarou can understand humans better and become a good God himself. But his life’s about to change when a girl enters his life and he falls in love with her.

It is a fact that Netflix animators were unable to do justice with the Manga. Seek to watch an anime driven by an intriguing plot. This might not be the best choice for you, but if your sole intention is to watch anime Gods in action, this might come as a blessing.

In the world of Ragnarok, the deities have formed a council to discuss universal matters. And in every millennium, this council gathers to decide the fate of humanity. Noragami 1

Noragami is a God anime based on the manga series called Adachitoka. When we think about the Gods, the image that appears in our mind is of a being sitting on a golden throne with unimaginable powers.

That’s the dream of our MC too, he is a God but the problem is he is poor with no followers. Definitely worth your time.

Yato is a minor God who grants wishes for 5 yen. It’s his way to make a name for himself. His deep desire is to have a shrine of himself and many worshippers.

Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok

The concept of a God stuck on earth is not unique in any sense. However, the point that distinct this anime from others is the depiction of contradictory characters. Not just the main but the side characters too plant numerous entertaining plots that get too addicting to watch.

The story starts off from a Greek legend where God Odin bans the God of mischief Loki. As punishment for Loki’s sins, he is exiled on earth and is forced to take the form of a human child. His only way to return to Heaven is to collect evil characters that have taken over human hearts.

So he started a detective company that investigates paranormal activities and supernatural beings. During his journey, he befriends many characters, and many of them want to annihilate him.

I am sure the phrase ‘Opposite Attracts’ would have come to your mind after reading the logline of this God anime. When I first heard about this anime from a friend, I was totally hooked and decided to watch it. It was one of the good decisions of my life. If you also find the premise of this anime interesting then go ahead and watch it.

Ichiko Sakura is a 16-year-old high school girl who has been very lucky throughout her life. Gods had blessed her with this fortune energy.

But now this ultimate power is creating an imbalance in the world. To rectify this problem, Gods send Momiji, the god of Misfortune to the human world to bring the balance back by stealing the fortune energy from Ichiko.

1. KonoSuba

  • Logline: An adventurous story of a not so heroic guy and his partner, a useless Goddess.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Fantasy, comedy, Isekai
  • Studio: Studio Deen

KonoSuba is one of the most entertaining shows that I’ve watched and is definitely the funniest God anime out there. The comedy in this series is gold and caters to mature audiences.

The anime takes a dig at all the simp protagonists of other animes with an MC who is very open about his desires and doesn’t shy away from all the attention he gets. Plus it’s funny to see the main Goddess in this anime is a total nut job.

Kazuma Satō dies and gets transported to a fantasy world. He meets the Goddess of Water, Aqua, and asks her to join him in this new adventure, hoping that keeping a Goddess around would help him out.

But to his surprise, Aqua is useless in the human world and becomes a burden on Kazuma. Together they try hard to survive in a world filled with demons and magic.
