Are you ready to immerse yourself in a world filled with magic, adventure, and fantasy? In this post, I have mentioned my 15 Most Favourite Magic Animes that made me envious of fictional characters.
Like most of us, I am sure you must have once dreamt of having magical powers after watching a movie or tv show that had magic in it. After watching these anime, I felt that way.
This list is compiled based on my likings and might not feature some of the other great Magic animes. So if you have one in mind then drop its name in the comments below.
15. The Irregular at Magic High School

Ofter looked down upon by the other students, Tatsuya doesn’t give much notice to others, except his little sister Miyuki who is an exceptional magician and quite popular at school. Together they face challenges of the school and the outside world.
Why on this list?
It is a magic anime that might not suit everybody’s taste because, in the anime, magic is combined with hi-tech gadgets, so it sometimes feels more like a sci-fi anime. But aside from that fact, the anime is good and the animation is just great.

Welcome, 90s kids. Time to refresh some beautiful memories from the past. The only reason this is on the list because of the sheer legacy this series carries forward. Its story and animation were far ahead of its time.

Ryner Lute is one of the few survivors of the Roland war. He and his fellow swordswoman are ordered to find aid for the nation based on the ancient relics. Through this journey, Ryner not just completes his mission but explores the mystery of his cursed eyes.

There is no doubt that the title is a bit misleading. It could be a translation mistake. As far as the show is concerned it breaks magic anime stereotypes and sets in a completely different world of kings and kingdoms. The story is captivating and faced paced episodes don’t leave a chance for you to regret your time.

12. The Misfit of Demon King Academy

This magic anime is not unique in any way but it stays true to itself throughout and presents a story that keeps you engaged and entertained. The magic shown in the anime is grand and looks absolutely stunning on screen.

11. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Same Senses but a New Life
In his new life, he is named Rudeus. He has a look of a child but possesses a mind of a thirty-year-old. His loving parents discover that their child exhibits a phenomenal talent for magic.
With awful memories from his past life, Rudeus sets to make his new life full of excitement and adventure.
Why On This List?
Reincarnation is a popular trope in the magic anime genre. I have watched numerous anime with the same theme molded to support the main story. However, only a few anime like this have been successful in bringing liveliness to the new world of the protagonist and the show itself.

10. Princess Tutu
- Logline: Arihu in Japanese means “duck”. That’s what the main lead has transformed from.

The story centers on a 13-year-old named Arihu. Arihu is not just any normal girl but a “duck” transformed into a human by mysterious spells. It is her fairy tale story as she goes about discovering the reason for her existence.

Arihu wears an egg-shaped magical pendant. She discovers that using this pendant, she can transform into Princess Tutu. This transformation makes her a beautiful dancer. Whoever sees her dancing as Princess Tutu gets revived of his life’s grief and turmoil.
Why On This List?
Not all good stories are meant to pierce through your heart and leave you to awe stunned. A perfect show is the one you can connect to. I felt Princess Tutu is one soft-hearted anime that many otakus will love.

9. Blast of Tempest

It is learned that to find the cause of his sister’s death, Mahiro has joined hands with a witch named Hakaze Kusaribe. Soon Yoshino and Mahiro reunite and fight together not just to find Aiko’s killer but to save the world.

This is not an absolute magic genre but a blend of psychological and thriller, making it super exciting to watch. Each episode ends at a nail-biting cliffhanger. The story moves quickly through the timeline. Before you know it, you are totally hooked to the show.

8. KonoSuba

In this world, Kazuma tries to live better than before but the challenges of this world are immense and demons are trying to kill him. He along with his dysfunctional team try very hard to stay alive and kill demons.
Why On This List?
Konosuba is one of the most hilarious anime I’ve watched. Although the magical aspect of this anime is not the center attraction, it is more grounded and no main character is overpowered which makes it more entertaining to watch.

Fairy Tail is a well know anime and I’ve sure you might have heard about it or even watched it already. It is a long anime series with 300+ episodes with tonnes of the magic of various kinds. The show features dragons, mages, spirits, and all you desire from a magic anime.

6. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
- Logline: A middle-aged loner gets reincarnated as a slime in a fantasy world.

Mikami is a loner. Being an office worker, he is trapped in a nine to five cycle and is bored of his routine. An unexpected event of a robbery gets him stabbed on the street. What looked like an end turned out to be a new beginning. He gets reincarnated in a fantasy world with supernatural abilities.
New Life As a Slime
After getting killed, Mikami gains consciousness and discovers that he is no more a human but a slime. A Slime has the magical powers to devour anyone and transform into its shape, form, and even possess its abilities.
Why On This List?
Life is unexpected. A sudden event brings forth entirely new dimensions to explore. The concept of constantly exploring new dimensions is what makes this anime special. Although it’s a lighthearted, feel-good anime type of anime, it doesn’t compromise with the story at all.

5. A Certain Magical Index
- Logline: In a world of mysterious powers, Touma Kamijou inherits a completely distinct power that cancels out other powers.

The premise sets up in modern-day Japan, where technological advancements aren’t the only point of interest for scientists. Almost every other student is developing a magical ability (called the esper) of their own. In such a scenario, Touma Kamijou has mysterious powers that cancel out other superpowers.
A Promise to Get Over Mediocrity
Touma Kamijou is the lowest grade student in school. But he doesn’t care about his mediocre life until he meets Index Librorum Prohibitorum. A strange girl is chased by a dangerous organization for her powers. He promises to keep her safe at the cost of his life.
Why On This List?
A unique concept never goes out of fashion. Maybe that’s one simple reason why I placed this show on the list.

Black Clover is an anime that has an in-depth storyline as its over 150 episodes long and unlike other magic anime on this list it gets quite intense and the magic part shown in the show is taken seriously with a lot of focus on the detailing.

Challenges for the Trio
As the three wanders across the land in search of more dungeons, they come across powerful enemies who are leeching on the weak and innocent. Over time its becomes a fight of good vs evil.
Why On This List?
Magi is a magic fest for all magic genre lovers. On top of that, it takes us back to the theme of the Arabian nights that we all watched as kids, and it’s really nice to see a different spin on the story. Overall, this anime is binge-worthy and worth your time.

In a hope that some of his gaming crew also might be inside the game, Momonga decides to spread his influence in this strange world with the help of NPCs, so that his teammates could find him.
Why On this List?
Overlord is probably my most favorite anime on this list. Even though the plot of an MC getting stuck inside the game has been done a lot but the way this anime goes around is just mesmerizing to watch. The magic in the anime is just mind-blowing and the characters are badasses. A must-watch for everybody.
