Highlights of best thai drama

The popularity of Thai dramas is skyrocketing around the globe. I picked up my first drama two years back and now I’ve probably watched every good Thai drama that is out there.

In this post, I’ll be sharing with you my 25 most favorite Thai dramas and along with it, I’ve added 5 more great Thai Dramas as honorary mentions.

For your convenience, I’ve arranged the list in two sections and separated the Boys Love Dramas from the rest, so it’s easy for you to choose what to watch

Click here to jump to either section of the list:

The list is made in an unorderly fashion and the dramas are not ranked. Every drama has its own charm and every single one of them is watch-worthy.

Straight Dramas

1. Full House

  • Logline: Two people end up falling for each other after forced to stay in the same house together.
  • Year: 2013
  • Genre: Rom-com
  • Cast: Pirat Nithipaisarnsakul, Sushar Manaying, Pirat Nipitpaisalkul

This Thai Lakorn is based on a Korean drama of the same name. By some tweaks made to the scripts (comedy part I would say)and covering the loopholes(slow progression), the Thai version took over the original by far.

The show follows a story of a writer who was deceived by her sister to go on a free trip and selling of her ancestor house in her absence. On returning to Thailand she has no place to live.

Soon she finds out the new owner, Mike, a British actor. Someone she had met on her trip and shared tragic conflicts. With some twists and turns, she manages to enter the house but with a one-year marriage contract with Mike.

Realistic comedysweet glimpses of romance and amazing chemistry between the main roles are some of the reasons you might consider watching this Thai remake over the original.

I am sure anyone’s who reading this has gone to a high school or is currently studying there. So you have that experience and that why you’ll relate to this Thai Lakorn who dives deep into the lives of Thai teenagers in school.

The story revolves around a group of teenagers who are studying in the same school. Each of them comes from a different background and has a different way of looking at life. This drama focuses on the issues and experiences those kids go through in high school.

Relationships, sexuality, sex, bullying, school gang violence, family issues, and substance abuse, the drama takes on all the hot topics and present everything beautifully in a story.

  • Cast: Korapat Kirdpan, Wachirawit Ruangwiwat, Apichaya Thongkham

People often tag Thai Lakorn with light-hearted and cheesy romantic stories. Although it was the case in the past, at present we are seeing shows like ‘The Gifted’ coming out from this industry and it is a great thing.

The story revolves around a school called Ritdha High School that runs a special class for a select few students with special abilities.

The aim is to awaken the potential within those students, but the reason for doing this is unknown. Soon the students realize that there are conspiracies that can cause huge harm to everybody.

4. Kiss Me

  • Logline: A romantic tale of a nerdy girl and a popular genius.
  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance
  • Cast: Mike Angelo, Aom Sushar, Tao Sattaphong

A unique Thai Lakorn that twisted the roles of a genius boy and a dumb girl in such a way that it came out as one of the highly-rated Thai dramas. The sequel Kiss me again was also a big hit.

As I mentioned above, the story follows a dumb girl and a popular boy having an IQ of 200. For Taliw it was love at first sight. Tenten is kind and generous but it is hard to know for Taliw what he feels for her

The creators have portrayed Tenten as a realistic character having unusual human abilities. The drama is a blend of sweet romance, comedy and high school love. Highly recommended for all who are looking for a new Thai Lakorn.

Jeerawat is a popular actress and is also very kind. One day her stepfather drugged her to take advantage of her but she escapes. Under the influence of drugs, she accidentally hits a woman with her car resulting in her death.

Sathit, the fiancee of that woman vows to take revenge from Jeerawat. But after a while, he discovers her true nature falls in love with her.

Girl2K was one of the most anticipated Thai Drama of 2021. It made me laugh and kept me hooked to the screen the entire time. If you are looking for some light hearted comedy then go for Girl2K.

Momay is an immortal girl and has been living for 2000 years. Despite all her efforts of dying, she is trapped in this world.

When her fortune-teller friend tells her that she can become mortal if she finds the love of her life, Momay gets hope. But now she’s confused about who to choose as there are four great candidates.

Just like Girl2K, the main lead in this drama is an immortal, but the coincidence ends there. This story is very different from Girl2K. If you like a little fantasy in your Romance drama then give it a watch.

Pachara was cursed to be an immortal by his lover Matira which makes him heartless. Years later when he sees a girl resembling Matira, he thinks of her as Matira’s reincarnation and starts hating her.

But is that girl really Matira’s reincarnation and can Pachara go on hating her forever?

10. U-Prince: The crazy Artist

  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Rom-com
  • Cast: Kunchanuj Kengkarnka, Note Panayanggool, Amp Phurikulkrit Chusakdiskulwibul

First of all, you need to know something. U-Prince is actually a collection of stories. It has 2 seasons and both seasons have a collection of more than 5 different stories and every story has 4 or more than 4 episodes.

There are many stories that I like from this series but I am just gonna talk about one i.e. ‘The crazy Artist’.

The story revolves around Mel B, a geeky girl, and Hippy, a Rock Band singer. Mel B was dumped by her boyfriend and on the same day, she meets Hippy who likes her Beatles t-shirt.

He asks for her t-shirt but Mel B wants him to pretend to be her boyfriend for five days as an exchange for it.

Like this one, I’ll also recommend you to watch U-Prince: The Lovely Geologist, U-Prince: The Single Lawyer and U-Prince: The Badly Politics. If you like you can watch all the 12 stories from both seasons.

After reading the logline you might be thinking what kind of an absurd story is this. In the 21st century, these kinds of dramas can get really bad publicity but it is the sharpness of the story that makes it a must-watch drama.

The story starts with Sake who is looking for Kate’s father who stole his money and ran away. After nabbing him, he sends off his daughter to Sake to pay off his debts.

Although this relationship began with a weird start, over time both start to have feelings for each other.
